VS2500: Ex Vivo Confocal Microscope
Description
Digital H&E images within minutes of tissue removal
Hematoxylin & Eosin staining is the pathologist’s standard tool to review cellular and sub-cellular imaging of tissue removed for microscopic evaluation. This standard has been used for decades and provides distinctive pink & purple colors which define cellular details in a Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded (FFPE) glass slide under the microscope.
This process takes very specialized instrumentation and highly trained technicians to use the instruments, but the most problematic is this all takes TIME.
From the time of sample removal to viewing a digitally scanned slide it can be 12-24 hours, or even longer.
The Vivascope 2500, with Digital H&E (DH&E) technology, is a breakthrough device that utilizes two imaging modalities of Fluorescence (488nm) and Reflection (638nm). The two separate lasers image the fresh sample after it has been stained with Acridine Orange for the delineation of nuclear material of the cells. Both signals are scanned simultaneously and are used to create recognizable, pseudo-colored images. The device’s software then uses an algorithm to translate the acquired information into colors that resemble H&E, yielding a DH&E image that’s available in minutes – not hours.
Now near Real-Time assessments of the tissue can be made for time critical lesion analysis and provide efficacy of the sample as well as adequacy of the lesion material.
Within minutes you have digital images ready to read, however it’s not just Digital Pathology. The sample remains undamaged, and available for standard FFPE processing, IHC testing, or molecular analysis. The VivaScope 2500 is approved for bedside use and can be installed on a portable table making it easily transferrable to different locations.
