GASP Grazing Angle Surface Polarimeter
Description
Strainoptics’ GASP® Polarimeter is a portable instrument for measuring surface stress in soda-lime tempered glass or heat-strengthened glass. It can also be used to confirm stress-relief in annealed glass and to validate furnace settings for manufacturers of safety glass. Our most current model is the LCD-GASP (shown at left), which is the ideal solution for applications where a large volume of measurements are made daily. It is battery-operated and comes with a CCD video camera and a built-in LCD display to eliminate operator eye fatigue and parallax errors. Conversions from Laser GASPs to LCD-GASPs are available and recommended!

Frequently Asked Questions
The GASP Polarimeter can be used for measuring surface compression levels in heat-treated architectural, structural, solar, and automotive glass, reducing or eliminating the need for destructive testing for many types of glass products, improving process control and productivity through optimization of furnace parameters, assuring proper annealing, and complying with worldwide industry standards and test methods, including ASTM, GANA, and CE requirements.
The GASP Polarimeter is available in two basic models: GASP - the standard model for flat surfaces, and GASP-CS - recommended for curved surfaces with a radius of curvature > 200 mm.
The GASP instrument package includes the GASP-STANDTM, rechargeable batteries for battery-operated models, a measuring wedge, GASP index matching fluid, a portable UV light, CAL-PLATETM for instrument verification, operator manual with calibration chart and certification documents, and a heavy-duty, instrument-quality carrying case with Strainoptics logo.
