Er: YAP has a large emission cross section of 3μm, which is three times larger than Er: YAG. High doped Er: YAP can emit 2.73 µ m laser, and low doped Er: YAP Crystal can emit 1.66 µ m laser. The emission and excitation spectra of Er: YAP Crystal show that there is a wide emission band in the safety region of human eyes, and its peak is around 1545nm and 1608nm. The pump band is suitable for common 800nm and 970nm diode lasers, which shows that Yap is a 1.5 μm candidate crystals for diode pumped lasers within the safety range of human eyes.
