Littrow prisms are used in applications where a minimum deviation and a maximum dispersion of the incident beam are required. These prisms are typically made of UV fused silica and feature moderate loss for p-polarized beams. Thanks to these properties they are frequently used in laser cavities (to fine tune the laser by wavelength selection) and in spectrographs in conjunction with diffraction gratings. Because of their unique applications the accuracy of Littrow Prisms, which is defined by the precision of their angles, is an important consideration.
